Any citizen of Sri Lanka can apply to the Ministry of Justice with their credentials to be appointed as a JP. The applicant should be one who has served the public, carries out social service, and is of good standing. Appointments are made under the Judicature Act No. 02 of 1978. CJPSL can guide you through the application process — contact us or download our application form.
If you are an already-appointed Justice of the Peace, you can register with CJPSL by completing the online Google Form (link on our homepage) or downloading the print application from our website. Upon successful registration you will receive an official CJPSL membership ID, digital membership card, and QR verification certificate.
Visit our Membership Verification page at jpsrilanka.lk/verification.php. You can search by membership ID (e.g. CJPSL/JP/14567), full name, or phone number. Results show the member's active status, district, and contact details.
Yes. CJPSL regularly conducts workshops, seminars, and certification renewal programs for registered JPs across all provinces. These cover legal updates, document witnessing procedures, oath administration, and community mediation. Check our Events page or contact us to register.
A JP is authorised to witness and certify statutory declarations, affidavits, certified true copies of original documents, oaths and affirmations in legal and governmental contexts, and various other legal instruments. JP services are provided free of charge to the public.
